Protect your foundation and flower bulbs from these busy burrowers

1. Manage Bird Feeders
Spilled bird seed is the #1 attractant. Switch to thistle seed (they don't like it) or clean up spills daily.
2. Remove Cover
Move wood piles and rock walls away from your foundation. Chipmunks need cover to travel safely.
3. Protect Bulbs
Plant bulbs in wire mesh cages or choose varieties they dislike, such as daffodils and allium.
Do Repellents Work?
Taste repellents (like hot pepper spray) can protect specific plants, but they wash off in the rain and must be reapplied constantly. They do not stop chipmunks from burrowing under concrete.
Trapping is the only effective way to reduce a high population. Because chipmunks reproduce quickly, professional trapping programs are often needed to make a real impact.
